Me > You > Us

In our workshops, we teach the Me > You > Us process, a simple yet powerful framework to guide effective communication in any situation. It helps you connect personally, address the needs of your audience, and work towards a shared understanding or goal. Here's how it works:

1. Me: Start with Self-Awareness

Before you engage, reflect on your perspective so you know what you need and why.

Ask Yourself:

2. You: Focus on Your Audience

Once you’re clear on your own perspective, shift your attention to the other person or audience. Consider their needs, feelings, and situational context. This step is about empathy and adapting your message so it resonates with them. After all, it’s not what you say but…what is heard.

Key Questions:

  • What does the other person need or expect from this conversation?

  • How might they feel about this topic?

  • What language or tone will make them feel respected and understood?

3. Us: Build Connection and Collaboration

Finally, bring the “Me” and “You” perspectives together to create a shared understanding or solution. This step focuses on collaboration, mutual respect, and finding common ground.

Key Strategies:

  • Align on a shared outcome or next step.

  • Reinforce trust and partnership.

  • Emphasize the value of working together.

Example:

“I believe we can tackle this challenge if we focus on open communication. Let’s discuss how we can support each other to make this work.”

This process can be applied to any communication scenario—whether you’re resolving conflicts, pitching ideas, or simply having a casual conversation. It’s a framework that helps you navigate with confidence, empathy, and intention.
